Biography
A note on the author
Shri Rakesh Kumar is a resident of Sunam Udham Singh Wala. He took voluntary retirement while serving as Senior Section Engineer (Land) in the Railway Department.
In the Firozpur Division he freed and saved railway land worth crores of rupees from the land mafia and private parties — work for which he has received several awards.
He is now a full-time writer. He has written 19 books, of which 10 are works of original research.
Writing journey
From file notes to books
The writing began with the work itself. His first published title, Railway Land Management: A Practical Approach (2010), set down in plain terms what thirty-three years of protecting railway land had taught him; two further technical books followed, in Hindi and English.
From 2013 onwards the subject changed. Book after book turned to the Ghadar movement and the freedom struggle — Udham Singh, Bhagat Singh's secret refuge in Ferozepur, Gulab Kaur, Lal Singh Sahibaana, Kirpa Singh Lang Majaari — written in Punjabi, Hindi, English and, for readers across the border, in Shahmukhi.
